The Ritz offers classes in Classical Ballet from Pre-Primary level right through to professional level in the CSTD Syllabus & Vaganova method. Our Ballet department has been hugely successful over the years with several of our students going on to professional careers in Ballet Companies and as Teachers. Former student – Jared Wright – is now a professional ballet dancer in HET National Ballet in the Netherlands after being in the Australian Ballet Company for over 5 years. Former student – Robert McMillan – danced with Queensland Ballet Company for 3 years. Former Student – Jessica Fyfe – is currently in The Stuttgart Ballet in Germany after dancing with the Australian Ballet Company for 7 years. Former Student - Kristopher Yates - was a dancer in the Australian Ballet Company Education Ensemble touring all over Australia. We had 9 students selected for the exclusive Queensland Ballet Junior Extension Programme between 2001 and 2018. One of our current students has been offered a place in the brand new Qld Ballet Academy starting in 2019. We have had 4 students (including 3 current students) selected for the Australian Ballet School Interstate Programme. Some of our Junior Dancers have been selected to perform in the Queensland Ballet Productions of "A Midsummer Nights Dream"; “The Nutcracker”; "Sleeping Beauty"; International Galas and 4 of our Juniors were selected to perform in Claire Marshalls Short Contemporary Dance Film – “Ward of the State” which won the 2015 Ausdance Award for “Best Dance on Film”. One of our Stanthorpe ballet students is currently in the Finishing Year of the Melbourne City Ballet School. One of our senior students was selected to perform in the Qld Ballet production of "Strictly Gershwin" in 2016. Other students have gone on to full-time training at National Theatre Ballet School, Ministry of Dance, WAAPA, Brent Street and ED-5. We strongly encourage all dance students to take at least one ballet class per week to keep their other styles strong, however, if ballet is your main focus, you need to be taking more than one class per week and keep building the training as you move up through the grade levels. Our Ballet exams Syllabus is recognised by Education Queensland and can help students who are in Yrs 11 and 12 at school with their Senior Certificates and OPs.
"Over the 10 years I attended The Ritz Performing Arts Centre I learnt not just to dance, but also life lessons that can only come from such experienced, skilled and professional teachers. Although it was never my goal to become a dance professional, I gained poise, maturity, knowledge and independence from my time studying under Rhonda Binnie. During one of the hardest times in my (adult) life the Ritz family surrounded and supported me, although I was no longer a student. I will be forever greatful for the things I have taken away from my time at The Ritz."
